Niko was born in the small fishing village of Port Nazir.  The town was populated by Kitsu, that often mewed while speaking.  Niko was often seen wearing tight clothing that showed off her figure.  Her style of dressing often upset the townspeople who would point and whisper as she walked.  Niko, being shy and sensitive, found the situation to be unbearable causing self doubt and shame about who she was.  Niko was fun loving and energetic so she didn't understand why everyone treated her so poorly.  Even her parents were unkind to the girl.  At the age of 18 Niko decided to leave Port Nazir to travel to the nearest city of Hill Crescent to see if she would fit in.  While she did fit in better, the city was not an easy place for a young woman to prosper alone.  She loved the magic and different races that populated the city but found she was often taken advantage of.  Niko ended up working as a dancer in a local pub, to which she felt ashamed.  While she was a strong soul her shy manners made it hard to make enough money for her to live, she dreamed of a better life.
